Designed around how children learn, grow, and engage with the world.
Students do not all learn the same thing at the same speed or in the same way.
At PEAK Mastery, personalization means using evidence of learning to determine what each student needs next. Some students may need more time, another explanation, targeted practice, or additional support. Others may be ready to apply their learning in a new context, explore more deeply, or move into greater challenge.
The goal is not to make learning easier. The goal is to make the path responsive enough for every student to keep growing.
Personalized learning and pacing means students receive instruction, practice, and support based on their readiness, strengths, and needs. While the destination remains the same for all students-mastery of Utah Core State Standards-the path to get there can look different for each learner.
Know what mastery looks like.
Students work toward clearly defined grade-level competencies and learning expectations.
Allow time for understanding.
Students may spend more or less time on particular skills and concepts based on demonstrated understanding.
Provide what is needed next.
Educators use evidence of learning to determine when students need reteaching, additional practice, feedback, intervention, or a different approach.
Keep growth going.
Students who demonstrate readiness can deepen, extend, apply, or move into more advanced learning rather than simply waiting for others.
Personalized learning is not about lowering expectations. It is about providing different pathways toward meaningful growth and mastery.
When learning is personalized, students are more engaged, build confidence, experience success, and develop a love of learning. It helps prevent both frustration and boredom, ensures students get the support or challenge they need, and builds independent, capable learners.
Personalized learning does not mean lowering expectations. It means responding to what each student needs to continue growing toward mastery. At any given point, that next step may look different from one learner to another.
NEEDS MORE TIME
Revisit, practice, receive support.
A student may receive another explanation, additional modeling, smaller-group instruction, intervention, targeted practice, different resources, or more time to build understanding.
DEVELOPING AS EXPECTED
Continue building and applying understanding.
A student continues practicing, applying, receiving feedback, and working toward increasingly secure mastery.
READY FOR MORE
Extend, deepen, or move into greater challenge.
A student may apply learning in more complex situations, explore deeper questions, make interdisciplinary connections, or move into more advanced work when appropriate.
Small-Group Instruction
An educator works with a small group of students who need targeted instruction on a similar skill or concept.
Different Practice
Students work on different competencies or levels of practice based on their current needs.
Additional Scaffolds
A student receives models, manipulatives, visual supports, guided practice, or other tools that make challenging learning accessible.
Revision & Feedback
A student uses feedback, revises work, and has another opportunity to demonstrate stronger understanding.
Deeper Application
A student who understands a concept applies it to a more complex problem, project, investigation, or real-world situation.
Advanced Learning
When appropriate, a student moves into more advanced competencies or learning experiences.
Personalized learning does not mean every student sits alone completing a different computer program.
Students at PEAK Mastery remain part of a learning community. They participate in shared instruction, discussions, Wonder Workshops, projects, fieldwork, collaborative experiences, and community learning while receiving individualized support and challenge where it matters.

Together, these sources help educators see more than a score. They help us understand the learner.
Students may need different levels of support at different times, and those needs can change from competency to competency.
A student may be highly independent in one area while needing significant guidance in another. The goal is not to label students as “ahead” or “behind,” but to identify what will help each learner make meaningful progress.
We meet students where they are without leaving them there.
Personalized learning allows PEAK Mastery to respond to students as individuals while maintaining a strong shared commitment to meaningful learning and high expectations.
Students learn that needing support is part of learning, challenge is something to grow through, and progress is not about comparing themselves to the person beside them.
Over time, they begin to understand not only what they are learning, but also how they learn best, when they need help, when they are ready for greater challenge, and how to take increasing ownership of their growth.
Personalization is not a separate part of the PEAK Mastery model. It shapes how students experience learning across all three pillars, helping each learner receive the time, support, challenge, and opportunities needed to continue growing.
Progress is guided by evidence of understanding.
Students work toward shared competencies and high expectations, while pacing, practice, support, and challenge can vary based on what evidence shows they are ready for next.
Different pathways can lead to meaningful learning.
Projects, investigations, fieldwork, authentic applications, and other experiences provide multiple ways for students to build, deepen, and demonstrate understanding while making connections to their interests and the world around them.
Personalization begins with knowing the learner.
Through conversations, observation, reflection, goal setting, and ongoing review of student work and progress, educators develop a deeper understanding of each learner and help determine when to support, challenge, adjust, or move forward.
At PEAK Mastery, personalization means meeting students where they are without limiting where they can go.
