September 10, 2026 | Application Update
PEAK Mastery Charter School has reached an important milestone. On September 10, our founding board presented PEAK Mastery’s proposal to the Utah State Charter School Board and received approval to move forward into the full charter application process.
For those of us who have spent months researching, planning, listening to Cache Valley families, and developing the model, it was an exciting moment. It was also one step in a much longer process.
PEAK Mastery is a proposed public charter school. Passing the proposal stage gives us the opportunity to continue through Utah’s charter authorization process. Our next task is developing the full charter application, where the plans behind PEAK Mastery will be examined in much greater detail.
The proposal stage gave us an opportunity to introduce the vision and educational model behind PEAK Mastery and demonstrate why we believe another public school option could serve families in Cache Valley.
Our founding board presented the model and responded to questions from the Utah State Charter School Board members about academics, enrollment, operations, student support, and how different parts of the school would work in practice.
Those conversations are valuable. Building a school requires more than a strong idea. It requires us to think carefully about how that idea will work for real students, families, and educators.
We left the proposal stage with both permission to move forward and useful questions to carry into the next phase.
Our next stage is the full charter application.
This is where the plans become much more detailed. Our founding board will continue developing PEAK Mastery’s academic program, enrollment analysis, financial and operational plans, governance structures, student supports, community relationships, and implementation plans.
We will also continue refining the details of PEAK Mastery’s educational model, including our 4-Day On-Site and 2-Day On-Site Pathways, Mastery-Based Learning, Expeditionary Learning, and Coaching Relationships.
Each stage gives us the opportunity to strengthen PEAK Mastery, work through the details carefully, and prepare a school model that can serve students well for years to come.
Charter authorization is a multi-stage process, and passing the proposal stage does not guarantee that PEAK Mastery will ultimately receive a charter.
There are still reviews, workshops, application requirements, decisions, and pre-opening work ahead of us. Our current goal remains to open PEAK Mastery for the 2028–29 school year, subject to charter approval and completion of the required authorization and pre-opening processes.
We want families interested in PEAK Mastery to be able to follow that journey without having to decipher the charter process themselves. That is why we created the Application Status section here on Inside PEAK Mastery. As we reach meaningful milestones, we’ll share them here.
For now, we are grateful to have reached this one.
The proposal stage is complete. The full charter application is next.
